The Đà Nẵng rainy season runs roughly from September to December, and October and November are the wettest months. Long-term averages show about 658 mm of rain in October (WMO) and 486 mm in November, compared with 22 mm in February. Storms are possible, but with a flexible plan and a dry place to work, most weeks stay perfectly liveable.
Đà Nẵng rainy season at a glance
Đà Nẵng has two main seasons. The city’s tourism office describes a dry season from January to August and a rainy season from September to December, when the autumn and winter rains arrive in Central Vietnam (Danang Fantasticity). The city government’s own profile is slightly broader and counts August as part of the wet season, with rain concentrated in October and November (Đà Nẵng city portal).
In practice, the season builds up slowly. August and September bring more frequent showers, October and November bring the heaviest rain, and December is cooler and still damp. By January, the rain usually eases and the long dry stretch begins.
Đà Nẵng weather by month
The most useful numbers come from the official climate normals for the Đà Nẵng weather station, published through the World Meteorological Organization and supplied by the Viet Nam Meteorological and Hydrological Administration. They cover 1991–2020; a “rain day” is any day with at least 0.1 mm of rain (WMO World Weather Information Service).
| Month | Average high | Average low | Rainfall | Rain days |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| January | 25.2 °C | 19.7 °C | 83 mm | 14 |
| February | 26.3 °C | 20.4 °C | 22 mm | 7 |
| March | 28.4 °C | 22.1 °C | 36 mm | 7 |
| April | 30.9 °C | 24.0 °C | 50 mm | 7 |
| May | 33.4 °C | 25.4 °C | 71 mm | 10 |
| June | 34.9 °C | 26.3 °C | 68 mm | 9 |
| July | 34.4 °C | 26.0 °C | 92 mm | 12 |
| August | 34.0 °C | 25.8 °C | 167 mm | 14 |
| September | 32.0 °C | 24.8 °C | 394 mm | 17 |
| October | 29.6 °C | 23.7 °C | 658 mm | 21 |
| November | 27.7 °C | 22.5 °C | 486 mm | 21 |
| December | 25.3 °C | 20.5 °C | 272 mm | 21 |
Added up, the four months from September to December bring about 1,810 mm of the roughly 2,400 mm a year in this dataset, around three quarters of the annual rain. The city government quotes a slightly higher yearly average of 2,505 mm and says October and November average 550–1,000 mm per month (Đà Nẵng city portal). Figures differ slightly depending on the period measured.
Temperatures stay mild: even in December, the average low is around 20 °C.
Đà Nẵng in October and November
These two months are the heart of the rainy season in Đà Nẵng. Rain falls on about two out of three days on average, and a single heavy spell can be dramatic: before Storm No. 12 in October 2025, forecasters expected 500–700 mm of rain over six days (Viet Nam News), about as much as an average dry season from January to August. Humidity is also at its highest: the city records about 85.67–87.67% in October and November, compared with 76.67–77.33% in June and July (Đà Nẵng city portal).
That still does not mean grey skies from morning to night. The tourism office notes that many rainy-season days have sunshine between short periods of rainfall (Danang Fantasticity). So plan around the showers rather than the season.
For remote workers, that means a simple routine: work during the downpours, walk along the river when the rain stops, and keep beach plans flexible.
Typhoon season in Central Vietnam
Storms and tropical depressions form in the East Sea (South China Sea) for much of the year, but the central coast is most exposed in the second half. According to the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting, from September to December storms and tropical depressions mainly affect central and southern Vietnam, while in August and September they tend to hit the north (Viet Nam News).
Vietnamese media number each season’s storms in order, so you will read headlines like “Storm No. 12”. In October 2025, Tropical Storm Fengshen (Storm No. 12) approached the coast, and Đà Nẵng closed all schools for two days, 22 and 23 October, as a precaution (Viet Nam News).
The 2026 typhoon season outlook for Đà Nẵng
For this year, the outlook is calmer than average. In August 2026, the forecasting centre expected three to five storms or tropical depressions in the East Sea between September and November 2026, with one or two making landfall, below the long-term average. It also forecast October rainfall from southern Nghệ An to Đà Nẵng to be 20–40% below average, while warning that moderate to heavy rain could still occur (VietNamNet).
A seasonal outlook is not a promise: a single storm can still bring days of heavy rain, so keep checking the forecast.
How to follow official weather warnings in Đà Nẵng
Weather apps are fine for “will it rain this afternoon?”, but for storms and floods, go to the official sources:
- National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting (NCHMF): Vietnam’s national forecaster publishes storm and tropical depression bulletins, heavy rain warnings, flood alerts and city forecasts. The main site is in Vietnamese (nchmf.gov.vn), and there is an English version with forecasts for Đà Nẵng and other cities.
- Vietnam Disaster and Dyke Management Authority (VDDMA): the national disaster management agency posts flood warnings, situation reports and storm information (phongchongthientai.mard.gov.vn).
- Đà Nẵng city authorities: school closures, traffic restrictions and evacuation notices come from the city and ward People’s Committees and are reported quickly by local and state media.
In English, Viet Nam News, VnExpress International and Tuoi Tre News report storm preparations in Đà Nẵng. If a storm is forecast, follow the instructions from local authorities and your landlord, stay indoors during the strongest wind, and charge your phone and power bank in advance.
Local flooding in Đà Nẵng during the rainy season
On most rainy days in Đà Nẵng, the streets are simply wet. After very heavy rain, though, some low-lying streets fill with water faster than the drains can cope. In October 2023, for example, a tropical depression brought a heavy downpour that flooded many streets across the city, and students were allowed to stay home (VOV).
When heavy rain is forecast, the city acts early. Before the late October 2025 rains, Đà Nẵng’s education department allowed ward and commune leaders and school principals to let students stay home when necessary, and schools were asked to prepare as temporary shelters (Tuoi Tre News).
The practical rule is simple: if water is standing on the street, wait it out and only move on once it has drained. A café is a better place to spend that time than a stalled scooter.
Getting around Đà Nẵng in the rainy season
On a wet day, a Grab car is the most comfortable option. The app shows the price before you book, and you arrive dry. Waiting times can be longer when a downpour starts and everyone books at once, so leave a little earlier for appointments.
If you ride a scooter, the rainy season asks for more care:
- Wear a proper raincoat. The local poncho style (áo mưa) covers you and much of the scooter. At An Space, raincoats are provided for guests.
- Slow down and brake early. Wet roads, painted lines and metal covers get slippery.
- Avoid flooded roads. You cannot see potholes or open drains under brown water, and water in the engine can stall the scooter.
- Keep your phone dry in a waterproof pouch, so you can still navigate.
- Check your licence and insurance before riding at all, as in any season.
During a storm warning, stay off the roads entirely, especially the coastal road and mountain passes. Rain can also trigger landslides in hilly areas: in October 2025, rockfalls blocked a provincial road in the mountainous northwest of the city (Tuoi Tre News).

Hội An in the rainy season: when the ancient town floods
Hội An, now administratively part of Đà Nẵng since the merger with Quảng Nam on 1 July 2025 (Viet Nam News), sits low beside the Thu Bồn River. The ancient town experiences flooding every year (Tuoi Tre News).
Some years are exceptional. In late October 2025, continuous rain and discharges from hydropower plants flooded the old town, and tourists were taken by boat to higher ground (VnExpress International). On 30 October 2025, the Thu Bồn River at Hội An reached 3.32 m, above the historic flood peak of 1964, according to the national forecasting centre (Dtinews). Even so, officials said the town would be ready to welcome visitors again within days (Tuoi Tre News).
For a day trip in October or November, check the NCHMF forecast and local news the evening before, and go on a dry day. Our Hội An day trip guide covers tickets, timing and the lantern nights.
Working remotely through the Đà Nẵng rainy season
For remote workers, the rainy season can be the most productive time of year: less beach temptation, and a good café or coworking space turns a wet day into a focused one.
The tourism office itself suggests cafés overlooking the Han River, art spaces, museums and local restaurants for rainy days (Danang Fantasticity). A few ideas for indoor time in Đà Nẵng:
- Cafés: almost every street has a place to sit out a shower with a phin coffee.
- Museums: the Museum of Cham Sculpture holds a rich collection of sculptures from the ancient Champa kingdom.
- Gyms, spas, cooking classes and covered markets for days when the beach is off.
At An Space, An Cafe on the ground floor is open every day from 07:00 to 16:00, with Wi-Fi and plenty of power outlets, so a downpour never means losing a working day. Right next door, the An Space coworking space is opening soon, with a free section for residents and ergonomic desks and chairs.
Apartment tips for the rainy season in Đà Nẵng
At home, the rainy season mostly means humidity: clothes dry slowly, towels stay damp and cupboards can start to smell musty. A few habits help:
- Use a dryer, not the balcony. Drying laundry outdoors rarely works in October and November. A private washing machine and dryer make a real difference: every An Space apartment has both.
- Ventilate when it is dry outside. Open windows during breaks in the rain, then close them before the next shower.
- Use the air conditioner’s dry mode if it has one, to take moisture out of the air.
- Keep wet shoes and raincoats near the door, not in the wardrobe.
- Store electronics and documents in closed bags or boxes, off the floor.
Guests have noticed the laundry setup. Phuong P. wrote in a Google review: “Very hard to find private washer and dryer, and this apartment has it all.” Jittimaporn B. added: “Washer and dryer work fast and well, hot water is properly hot, aircon is strong and cold.”
What to pack for the Đà Nẵng rainy season
Packing for Đà Nẵng in October or November is mostly about staying dry and comfortable, not warm:
- A light, breathable rain jacket or poncho for walking
- Quick-dry clothes and fewer cotton items
- Sandals or shoes that can get wet, plus one dry pair for indoors
- A waterproof phone pouch and a small dry bag for your laptop
- A compact umbrella for the walk to the café
- A light long-sleeved layer for December evenings, when lows are around 20 °C
- A power bank, useful if a storm interrupts electricity
- Insect repellent, as mosquitoes like the wet season too
Raincoats, umbrellas and plastic sandals are sold all over the city, so there is no need to pack heavy rain gear.
The upside of the rainy season in Đà Nẵng
The rainy season has real advantages. The summer peak is over, and the tourism office says the city becomes more peaceful and attractions are generally less crowded from September to December (Danang Fantasticity).
It is also cooler. Average highs drop from 34.9 °C in June to 27.7 °C in November (WMO), which makes walking around the city and working without constant air conditioning far more pleasant. After a night of rain, mornings along the Han River can be beautifully fresh and clear.
